My husband and I have been scouring the Internet for polyester-free exercise tank tops for men. He wants but cannot find one that meets all or most of the following criteria:

  • organic cotton, wool or hemp, maybe Tencel (without any synthetics if possible)
  • a fitted (or athletic) cut with generous arm holes and lower neck opening
  • in colors beyond black, grey or white (with natural dyes if possible)
  • transparency in manufacturing
  • an eco-conscious, sustainable brand
  • purchase with a cause: giving back to the community

Below is a sample of 5 tank tops he’s been wearing and testing for his asana yoga practice with his feedback on what he likes and dislikes.

Jungmaven carries mostly hemp clothing made in Los Angeles, CA, USA, for men and women. Their tank top says athletic fit but looks on the looser side. The fabric is a midweight 7 oz hemp jersey blend (55 hemp/45 organic cotton) which may be a little thick for sweaty exercise, but okay for less intense yoga sessions. Best part: they offer 10 different colors!

PrAna’s Heritage Graphic Tank is made of 100% organic cotton. It’s a relaxed fit, but they offer a wider range of smaller sizes which may be an option for a tighter fit. Great neck opening, but not sure if the arm holes are too big (good for sweating). No graphics preferred, but the printed images are done well. Best part: more affordable than most of the tanks listed here, and they offer it in Luminous, Jasmine and Shadow colors!

Voormi Men’s Tech Tank is made of a DUAL SURFACE Precision Blended Wool (fabric made in Japan/garments sewn in Vietnam), but they’re not clear on what it’s exactly made of. The neck opening is too small/high and the arm holes may be too big, especially since it looks like a baggy fit. Best part: it weighs only 3.5 oz at 120 g/m2 and is perfect for sweaty workouts.
